What's painted on the card
On the 1909 card, an angel leans out of the clouds and blows a great trumpet with a flag hanging from it. Below, in the water, men, women and children rise from open coffins. Their arms are spread wide as they look up toward the sound. Nobody is cowering. The picture shows people hearing a call and answering it with their whole body. It's a scene of being woken up: what was asleep or buried stands up again and turns toward the light.
Judgement upright
Judgement is the card of hearing your name called. Something is waking you up: a moment of clarity, a strong sense of what you should be doing, or a realisation about your life that you can't un-see. This is often a turning point you'll remember.
Before you rise, the card asks you to look back honestly. What have you learned? What would you do differently? This isn't about blaming yourself. The people in the picture leave their coffins with open arms, not heavy hearts. Judgement asks you to forgive yourself and others for what can't be changed, keep the lessons, and leave the rest.
Then comes the call itself. It might be a new direction, a return to something you gave up, or a decision you've avoided for years. Pay attention to what keeps coming back to you. Answering it can feel like a second chance.
Judgement reversed
Reversed, Judgement often shows a harsh inner critic. You may be judging yourself so strongly that you can't move on, replaying old mistakes, or afraid of what others will think. The call is there, but you are not letting yourself hear it.
It can also mean ignoring a clear sign because answering it would mean change. Or repeating the same lesson because you haven't stopped to reflect. The way forward is gentler than you think: be as fair with yourself as you would be with a good friend.
In love
Upright
In love, Judgement points to an honest review of a relationship. You might see clearly what you want, or what you won't accept anymore. It can show a reunion, or a second chance where both people have grown. For singles, it often marks the end of old patterns, opening you to a different kind of love.
Reversed
Reversed, old blame or guilt may be weighing on a relationship. Holding on to past mistakes, yours or theirs, keeps you both stuck. Talk it through, or let it rest.
How someone feels about you
If you ask how someone feels about you and Judgement appears, they are thinking seriously about you and about the connection. They may be looking back on what happened between you, and seeing it in a new light. Feelings that were buried may be coming back up. They could be ready to make a decision or reach out.
Career and work
Upright
At work, Judgement can signal a calling: a pull toward work that feels meaningful. It's a good time to review your path, notice what you've outgrown, and make a clear decision about what's next. You may be offered a second chance, or decide to return to an old dream.
Reversed
Reversed, self-doubt or fear of criticism may be keeping you from going after what you want. Ask yourself whose judgement you're really afraid of.
Money
Upright
With money, Judgement asks for an honest review. Look at past choices without shame, learn from them, and make a fresh plan that matches what you value now.
Reversed
Reversed, guilt over past money mistakes may stop you from making good decisions today. Learn the lesson and move forward.
Yes or no
Leans yes. Judgement leans yes, especially for second chances and big decisions you feel called to make. Reflect first, then act.
The card's advice
Listen for the call that keeps returning. Forgive the past, keep its lessons, and rise to meet what's next.
Judgement in Starbound's spreads
The Crossroads: What's shifting
In The Crossroads, Judgement as the thing that's shifting is your view of yourself. You're waking up to something you didn't see before, about your past or your purpose. That new understanding is quietly changing every choice you make.
A Quick Look: The advice
Given as advice in A Quick Look, Judgement says: look back honestly, then decide. Don't make the next move from guilt or old habits. Take stock of what you've learned, forgive what you can, and choose the path that feels like your real calling.
The Path Ahead: Where you are now
At the start of The Path Ahead, Judgement shows you at a moment of reckoning. You're reviewing your life and feeling pulled toward something more. You may not have all the answers, but you know you can't go back to how things were.
Questions about Judgement
Does Judgement mean you are being judged?
Not in the sense of being punished. Judgement is about honest self-reflection and waking up, not about someone deciding you're bad. If anything, it asks you to stop judging yourself so harshly. The people on the card rise with open arms, not fear.
Can Judgement mean getting back together with someone?
It can. Judgement is linked to second chances and to people or things returning. But it also asks whether both of you have truly learned from the past. A reunion fits this card only if it's a fresh start, not a repeat of old mistakes.
What is the calling in the Judgement card?
It's a strong inner pull toward something you're meant to do or become. It might be a career, a creative project, a move, or simply living more honestly. You'll often recognise it because it keeps coming back, however many times you set it aside.
