What's painted on the card
On the 1909 card, a well-dressed man holds a pair of scales in one hand. With the other, he drops coins into the open hand of one of two beggars kneeling at his feet. The second beggar waits with hands raised, receiving nothing yet. The scales tell you he is measuring what to give. The picture is kind, but it also shows who stands and who kneels. It asks you to look at both sides of help: the gift itself, and the balance of power that comes with it.
Six of Pentacles upright
Something is changing hands. You might be the one giving: money to someone in need, time to a friend, knowledge to a newcomer. Or you might be the one receiving: a loan, a favour, a gift, support that arrives just when you need it. Both roles are honourable.
The scales in the picture matter. This card is about fair exchange, where help is offered with care and accepted without shame. It encourages generosity that you can afford, and receiving without feeling small. Today's giver may be tomorrow's receiver; things tend to move in circles.
Notice the second beggar too. If you are the giver, think about who you might be overlooking. If you are waiting, your turn may still be coming.
Six of Pentacles reversed
Reversed, the exchange is out of balance. Someone may give with conditions, using help to gain control. You might be stuck in debt, or always giving while getting nothing back. Gifts can come with an unspoken price.
Look at the deal under the kindness. Are you giving out of care or out of guilt? Is help being used to keep you grateful and quiet? Fairness means both people can say no. If they can't, it isn't really a gift.
In love
Upright
In love, the Six of Pentacles shows a caring, giving relationship where both people support each other. One may give more for a while, during a hard time, and that's fine if it evens out. If you're not with anyone, your kindness and generosity may draw a new person to you, or you may meet through helping others.
Reversed
Reversed, one partner may be doing all the giving, or using money and favours to hold power. Look for balance, and say clearly what feels unfair.
How someone feels about you
If you ask how someone feels about you and the Six of Pentacles appears, they feel generous and warm toward you. They want to help, look after you, or share what they have. They may also feel grateful for something you gave them. Watch that their care doesn't come with expectations; real affection doesn't keep a ledger.
Career and work
Upright
On the job, this card can show a raise, a bonus, a grant, or a mentor who shares their time. It also favours being generous with your own knowledge. Fair pay and fair treatment are in focus. Ask for what your work is worth.
Reversed
Reversed, you may be giving extra hours with no reward, or a manager may hold favours over you. Check that the exchange is fair, and set clear limits.
Money
Upright
With money, the Six of Pentacles is about flow: lending, borrowing, giving, paying back. It encourages giving within your means and accepting help without shame. If you lend to family or friends, agree the terms openly first.
Reversed
Reversed, it can point to debts, unequal loans, or giving more than you can afford. Get clear on what you owe and are owed. For anything large, like a big loan to family, get advice from a qualified adviser first.
Yes or no
Leans yes. Help is moving between people on this card. If your question involves asking for support, or offering it, the answer looks hopeful.
The card's advice
Give what you can afford, receive without shame, and keep the exchange fair. Kindness works best when nobody has to kneel.
Six of Pentacles in Starbound's spreads
The Bond: Between you
In The Bond, the Six of Pentacles between two people asks who gives and who receives in this relationship. It may be balanced and kind, or one person may always hold the scales. Look at who decides, not only at who gives.
A Quick Look: The advice
In A Quick Look, the Six as the advice is simple: ask for help, or offer it. Something in this situation will move once support flows. If you've been too proud to ask, or too busy to notice someone who needs you, this is your sign.
Two Paths: Path one: what it asks
In Two Paths, the Six of Pentacles here means the first option asks you to share: time, money or credit. It might also ask you to accept help from someone. Consider whether you're comfortable with that exchange, and whether it would stay fair over time.
Questions about Six of Pentacles
Are you the giver or the receiver in the Six of Pentacles?
It depends on your situation, and many people are both. Look at the question you asked and the cards around it. If you're struggling, the card may show help coming to you. If you're comfortable, it may ask you to share. The card often shows the roles switching over time.
Does the Six of Pentacles mean a loan or debt?
Upright, it can describe borrowing or lending in a fair way, such as a loan that helps and gets repaid. Reversed, it leans toward debt that feels heavy or one-sided. It doesn't tell you whether to borrow; it asks you to look at the terms and the relationship behind them.
What does the Six of Pentacles mean if you're always the one giving?
It asks you to look at the balance. Giving is good, but if it leaves you empty, or if others expect it, the exchange has become one-sided. The scales on the card are a reminder that fairness includes you. It's fine to say no, or to let someone give back.
